Market Update for Licensed and Leisure Sector

As Scotland continues to follow their roadmap out of lockdown, the majority of the country are operating under the ‘Level 1’ guidelines which allows hospitality to open indoors. This marks the first-time indoor hospitality in Scotland has been open for over 5 months, or longer for many areas in the central belt, and has provided a well-needed surge in interest within the hospitality industry.

With the sector now open, licensed and leisure businesses are experiencing a boom in reservations and customers – despite operating at a severely reduced capacity. This is also accompanied by a welcome review of physical distancing guidelines that are due to be updated in the coming weeks. Any alterations to the guidelines will have a significant impact on the sector as pubs and restaurants eagerly await the result of the review and the possibility of opening their doors to an increased number of customers.

In addition to the physical distancing review, Glasgow ushers in its first public event in over a year. A ‘fan-zone’ in Glasgow Green park, is currently accommodating 6,000 football fans for the Euro 2020 tournament. The event is showing full football matches over the entire 31-day period and is serving food and alcohol in designated areas. This will benefit the licensed and leisure sector considerably, with local restaurants and bars partaking in the event with pop-up stalls.

The easing of restrictions in all areas of Scotland ensures that licensed and leisure businesses can welcome back customers and continue to successfully operate, making now an opportune time to acquire or sell a business, as the demand is at an all-time high.
