Businesses offered new grants to aid businesses during lockdown
11th January 2021
Following the UK government’s announcement on a third national lockdown, businesses in retail, hospitality and leisure will receive new grants to help them until spring, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation on January 4th to confirm the UK will enter a third lockdown, similar to March 2020, until mid-February at the earliest to contain the surge in Covid-19 cases.
People have been ordered to stay at home, all schools have closed and you are only permitted to leave your house for specific reasons, such as food shopping, outdoor exercise and if working from home is not available.
Following the latest rules, The Chancellor has confirmed that closed businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors will receive a grant worth up to £9,000 per property as part of the new lockdown scheme.
The Treasury said the latest measures were in addition to a further £1.1bn in discretionary grant funding, plus grants worth up to £3,000 a month for closed businesses and £2,100 a month for affected firms once they have reopened.
Full details on the new rules and restrictions are available on the www.gov.uk/coronavirus website.
