Kiln Bar in Scalloway has been sold by Bruce & Co

A buyer who has bought an established café and bar on the west coast of Shetland has praised the excellent level of service provided by Bruce & Co.

Kiln Bar is a public bar with a café positioned in a prominent waterfront location in the heart of the village of Scalloway, approximately six miles from Lerwick.

The current owner wanted to sell the business to facilitate retirement plans and instructed Bruce & Co to advise the sale. After a comprehensive marketing campaign which resulted in four viewings, the bar was sold to a buyer who wants to carry on the business with the introduction of a full kitchen and a restaurant.

After completion of the sale, the buyer said they would recommend Bruce & Co to anyone looking to sell or buy a business.

They said: “The level of service has been great. We’ve had no issues from start to finish and Bruce & Co have kept us updated throughout.

“We have lots of work to do before we can get the business to where we want it, so we’re apprehensive about it because we want to install a full kitchen and a restaurant.

“But we’re very happy with the level of service received and we would recommend Bruce & Co to anyone looking to buy or sell a business.”

Our client has owned Kiln Bar for over 20 years and has built-up a popular bar, enjoying regular repeat customers all year round.

The location of the bar means that it boasts superb views over the harbour area and beyond to the island of Trondra, which makes it a great place to sit and watch the harbour activity.

The central location also means that the bar is within walking distance of most parts of the village.

The owner said they were nervous to sell the business after becoming attached to it, but they are happy with the buyer and can now enjoy their retirement.

They said: “I am pleased with our experience with Bruce & Co and I am happy I’ve sold the business to the right buyer.

“It has been a challenge to sell but that was expected due to our location, so I knew the buyer needed to be a specific type of person.

“But I have been happy with the service throughout the process and I would highly recommend Bruce & Co to anyone.”

Lauren Lees, Sales Negotiator at Bruce & Co said the experience during the sales process was positive between the vendor and purchaser.

She said: “I am very happy to have sold this business for the vendor as they were on the market for a while and began to lose faith due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“At the time of the sale, the business was mostly closed or only doing takeaways, so the buyers came at the right time and they are perfect for Kiln Bar moving forward.

“I wish them all the very best in the future.”
